Training Services

The Trainer

Our trainer, Adam Hoon, has been working with horses of all breeds for almost 20 years. He understands that training is not just about the techniques. It's about how the techniques are applied and how well you are able to "read" the horse. His good humor and quiet patience creates a calmer, more focused horse. Our training clients love the way he handles their horses, and they truly appreciate the results he produces. We have excellent training references from our first-time and repeat clients.

The Techniques

The phrase "Natural Horsemanship" covers a variety of the most modern horse training techniques. Based on years of learning different approaches from America's top clinicians, we take the best of these modern techniques and apply them to fit the needs and personalities of each individual horse. Everything we do is focused on keeping both horse and trainer safe. The horse is motivated to learn through conditioned response and approach-retreat reward methods. We feel strongly that the horse must have a positive learning experience in order to be willing, successful partner.

Just like humans, horses are individuals and will learn in their own ways at their own pace. What works well for one horse may not for another. Before we begin training, we will discuss your concerns and the goals you have in mind for your horse. We first evaluate what your horse already knows and then progress through the training at the speed that is appropriate for your horse. You will be invited to view the training sessions and learn how you can maintain the training at home.

Training Services

  • Rate is $550 per month for all types of training
  • Starting under saddle (a minimum of 60 days for green horses is highly recommended)
  • Problem solving on specific issues such as biting, charging, bucking, rearing, panicking, etc.
  • Conditioning, collection and responsiveness
  • Various levels of groundwork
  • Basic trail riding for green or problem horses
  • Advanced trail riding over obstacles, jumps, water crossings at speed
  • Advanced desensitizing to guns, heavy equipment, etc.

*Horses in training are kept on dry lots and fed hay twice daily. They are given free-choice access to water and salt. We highly recommend that clients purchase a high calorie grain or pellet food and vitamins for their horses while they are in training; they will lose weight in training just as people will. We will feed out grain once daily for no extra charge.
